Timeshare Exchange Explained: RCI, Points and Swapping Weeks
One of the best parts of owning timeshare is exchange — the ability to swap your home resort for a holiday somewhere new. Here is how it works in plain terms.
What is an exchange network?
An exchange company, such as RCI, connects thousands of resorts worldwide. You deposit the week or points you own into the network, and in return you can book a stay at another member resort.
How do you make an exchange?
- Deposit your week or points with the exchange company.
- Search for available resorts and dates you would like.
- Confirm the exchange and pay the exchange fee.
How to get the best swaps
- Deposit early: the sooner you deposit, the more choice you have.
- Own a strong week: peak-season weeks have more trading power.
- Be flexible: mid-week and off-peak dates open up more options.
Points make it simpler
If you own points, you skip the deposit step — you simply spend points on the resort, dates and unit size you want, up to the value you hold.
