Buying Resale Timeshare: What to Check Before You Sign
Buying timeshare on the resale market can cost far less than buying new, because you buy directly from an existing owner. To buy with confidence, work through this checklist before you sign anything.
1. Check the annual levy
Ask for the current levy amount and how much it has risen over the last few years. A low purchase price means little if the yearly levy is high. Make sure the levy is fully paid up to date.
2. Confirm the season and unit
Check exactly what you are buying: the resort, unit size (how many it sleeps), the week or points, and the season. Peak-season weeks hold their value best.
3. Understand transfer costs
Transferring ownership has admin and, in some cases, transfer fees. Ask who pays them and budget for them up front so there are no surprises.
4. Ask about outstanding amounts
Make sure there are no unpaid levies or special charges attached to the week. A reputable broker confirms the account is clear before transfer.
5. Use a trusted broker
Buying through an established broker protects you. Arrowwood International has helped South Africans buy and sell timeshare since 1990, and we handle the paperwork and transfer for you.
